Cash Money Lets You Do 'Whatever You Want,' Kevin Rudolf Says

'Don't Give Up' singer says working with the label is 'like going to school with no homework.'

Considering that Kevin Rudolf has written enough pop songs for artists like Jesse McCartney and Leona Lewis, it comes as no surprise that he can craft a pop song for himself. The Cash Money artist dropped "Don't Give Up" this week after he decided to embrace that lighter side for himself.

"It's the first song I wrote for the album. I wrote it right when I got to New York from L.A. I hadn't really written a song for myself in a long time. I got really inspired. I left L.A. and I felt a thousand pounds were off my shoulders," he said of the song, which will serve as his next album's lead single. "This was a message I wrote to myself and in the end it reaches other people and makes them feel good.

"Everyone's trying to be edgy all the time and it's not edgy anymore," he later explained. "And I just wanted to have the courage to put something powerful into the world."

The upbeat track is full of folky bounce and handclaps that perfectly mirror the sunshine of the lyrics, where Rudolf sings, "So don't give up, don't look down/'Cause your time is gonna come around/ Don't look back come to fall/ Baby, you were born to be a star."

Given that Rudolf has explored many other people's pop personas in the past, forging his own was an interesting step to take.

"It's different. If I'm writing for the other artists, I'm focused on them and the subject matter and what's going on in their lives. It just depends. Obviously if you're gonna work on Selena Gomez you know you're making an uptempo usually, usually more of a dance record, usually lighter subject matter, obviously," he explained.

"If I'm working with Lil Wayne, I know I'm making something that's a lot harder, obviously making hip-hop, making beats more than I am writing a song necessarily," he continued. "But usually the ones that just, like this one just came straight out, like I didn't even write it, so that one, I knew it was for me. The more I got into it, I knew it was actually right. And then [Cash Money bosses] Slim and Baby heard it and then they felt the same way, so there we were."

Rudolf notes that being on a label like Cash Money affords him the opportunity to try out new sounds, without any objection from his superiors.

"It's like, being on Cash Money, it's like going to school with no homework. It's like you just show up and it's awesome and you get to do whatever you want as long as you're working and you're creative and you're contributing, they don't care what you do," he said. "I mean that in a great way. I don't think you would get the artistry from Nicki Minaj and Wayne and Drake and all these people if you were being told what to do. There's no way. And that's why Cash Money has very creative artists.

"They don't have the filter that many record company A&R's and label bosses have. They trust that you're the artist," he continued. "You don't tell Wayne, 'A little more energy in this part and less cursing,' and if I have a day where I feel great and I want to write a song called 'Don't Give Up' and share that with the world, then they're all for it."

Nicki Minaj Deletes Twitter Account After Fight With Fan

Say it isn?t so Nicki Minaj has deleted her Twitter account thanks to a spat with a fan leaving many of her followers, like myself, hoping her silence on Twitter is just temporary.   On Sunday the Nicki deactivated her Twitter account after not only some heavy criticism from her recent interview on ABC?s Nightline regarding what she said about her father, ?as well as a feud with fansite Nicki Daily. The fansite has allegedly been leaking her songs. Her final Tweet said ?Like seriously, it?s but so much a?person?can take. Good f&%#king bye,” She was clearly not too happy with the Twitter world huh? Side note here, the fansite Nicki Daily is now closed as well. Those of you who aren?t entirely aware of what went down on her Nightline interview let me clue you in. Nicki said that she wished her abusive father was dead and that she wanted to kill him. Those comments caused her to come under fire from many fans once the interview was released. If you haven?t seen the interview I would suggest you watch it before you judge her too harshly. Drama, dram, drama I tell you but does this mean that Minaj [...]

Jenna Benn: Open Me Up and Look Inside

This past week I had scare. I was feverish, fatigued, and convinced that the scar tissue in my neck was changing. As I slowly moved my fingers from one lymph node to the next, I had trouble differentiating between lumps and bumps and scarring. Beneath the skin lies what was once was a battle field. What used to be filled with cancerous tumors is now scar tissue, which serves as a reminder of what was and what is.

As time passes, my scars change -- the ones that I can see and feel, and the ones that lie beneath. Keeping up with those changes can be daunting.

My encounter this week with fatigue and fever led me into a tail-spinning panic.

What if the cancer is back?

What if... What if... What if...

The what if's were starting to overpower my ability to be present.

I have worked hard to be present.

I decided that I would rather have them open me up and look inside than to be left wondering-what if...

As I coated my belly with barium, and wrapped myself in a cocoon of warm blankets, I breathed in, one, two, three, four, five -- and out, one, two, three, four, five, six.

As I entered the CT scan, overwhelmed with fear, determination, and hope, it became clear that even if cancer has left my body, it has not left my mind.

The following morning I was told that my scans were still clear.

As I breathed a deep sigh of relief, it became all the more evident that this post-treatment chapter is a constant balancing act between sickness and health. Like my disease, I now live somewhere in that grey zone.

As I continue to live in the here and now, in between the black and white, in between the sunlight and shadows, I have some decisions to make. Every day I have the choice to either let fear overpower my present or to let determination and hope guide my future.

Every day, I have the choice to let myself be defined by the disease, or to live in spite of it.

And every day I have the choice to retreat into what was, or to accept what is.

I choose today. I choose now. I choose hope.

Jersey Shore House: Trashed By Vandals!

As if the Jersey Shore house wasn't trashy enough based on its residents, the exterior of the Seaside Heights, N.J., structure has been vandalized repeatedly.

The realtor for Danny's house says hoards of people keep tagging the outside walls with their names and random, lame comments like, "We love you Snooki."

Seriously? You graffiti the Jersey Shore house and that's all you got?

Shore House

The damage at Case de Duck Phone is so profuse that the realtor is forced to repaint the guido STD cesspool ... on a weekly basis. So yeah, it's a problem.

It gets worse, too. People have been stealing roof shingles as souvenirs (?!) and are often caught messing with the front door when the house is vacant.

Local police are on the lookout for nefarious fans of the MTV series, which is set to begin filming again this summer ... when it's no longer their problem.

It's only the realtor's responsibility when the show is NOT in production. MTV and 495 Productions must take care of the property while the freak show films.

As if they don't have enough issues, with a pregnant Snooki, The Situation's drug problem and a general lack of hygiene and human decency in that place.

Alexandre Herchovitch dresses up HP Pavilion dm1 with golden doilies, higher sticker price
Ask the most fashionable folks you know, looking good isn't cheap -- no surprise then, that playing dress up has put a premium on the HP Pavilion dm1's price tag. Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch has dolled up the ultraportable laptop with a lacy gold topcoat, applying the signature flair to the machine's keyboard, palm rest and lid. The cost of style? About $1800, according to Notebook Italia, which buys you 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, a 500GB hard drive and 1.65GHz dual-core AMD E-450 brain. A pretty penny, considering the notebook's Core i3 model can be had for a mere $600. Sure, Herchcovitch takes the dm1 out of our holiday gift guide's "on the cheap" section, but where else are you going to get a designer doily kicks?
