Keanu Reveals Bill & Ted 3 Plot Details

Believe it or not, but we're inching closer and closer to a third installment in the Bill & Ted franchise. Sure the last sequel (Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey) hit theaters in 1991 -- and, yeah, both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are well beyond their teen years -- but they have a script, they have commitments from both original stars, and, as of last week, they have Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot onboard behind the camera. So while we wait for financing to hopefully come together and schedules to clear, what's this thing going to be about anyway? Will it still revolve around the mythology of the first film, in which it's revealed that in the future Bill & Ted are legendary musicians who've inspired a utopian society, or will they go off down another path, perhaps to save film, as Keanu Reeves jokingly told us recently?

Well, according to a new interview in GQ, Reeves finally spilled some beans, and, yes, the third film will once again revolve around the pressures of becoming their future selves. Reeves says, "We have a nice story. We'll see if anyone else wants to make it," adding, "One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world. And they haven't done it. So everybody is kind of like: 'Where is the song?' The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock. And we go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future 'us' refuses to tell us, and another future 'us' blames us for their lives because we didn't write the song, so they're living this terrible life. In one version we're in jail; in another we're at some kind of highway motel and they hate us."

So, based on this, they'll be traveling mostly to the future in an attempt to figure out how to fulfill their musical destiny. We're not sure how or why they run into different versions of their future selves, but it would be amusing if one version features Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter informing Bill and Ted that, yes, they actually do get to make another Bill & Ted movie. Like us, I bet it blows their minds too.?

What do you think about these ideas for the new movie?
