Gambling Complex Developer: 'The People Have Spoken' ? Norcross Patch
On July 31, Gwinnett County Republicans voted a slight majority in favor of the casino gambling question?on Tuesday's ballot.
While the question is non-binding and was merely advisory, it could impact the?proposed $1 billion gambling facility in Gwinnett County, particularly unincorporated Norcross. After the vote, developer Dan O'Leary sent out a hopeful statement.
"The people have spoken," he said in a press release. "They reject government solutions that simply raise taxes to fund their operations. It?s time to think creatively about solutions."
O'Leary?s destination gaming facility would have video lottery terminals in an almost resort-like area, which would include a hotel, restaurants, retail and more.

Reactions to TSPLOST Defeat ? Decatur Patch
Reaction from community members, politicians and business leaders to the defeat of the TSPLOST measure have ranged from ecstatic to despondent.
State Sen. Vincent Fort said, ?We?re gonna celebrate this victory. At the same time we?re gonna start working toward putting together a plan, a plan that works.?
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, a vocal proponent of TSPLOST, accepted defeat but vowed to start working on a new solution.
?I?m here to stick out my chin and take the loss, to accept the loss ? but to ask in a respectful way that we really do sit down and not wait six or eight or 10 years but work on it right away. Because the future belongs to those who figure it out. ? We?re going to have to have politics of cooperation if we?re going to meet these big challenges.?
